MILITARY ADVENTUROUS TRAINING

What is Nordic Foundation One?

Nordic Foundation 1 (NF1) is an Adventurous Training course for Service personnel with an introduction to Nordic skiing in a challenging and rewarding winter environment. Designed for those with little or no previous Nordic skiing experience, the programme develops the fundamental skills, confidence, exposure to controlled risk and physical ability required to operate effectively on Nordic skis. Op BASE CAMP supports units in delivering Distributed Training, a professionally organised NF1 Adventurous Training package, bringing together expert instruction, equipment, insurance, planning and supporting logistics needed to provide a focused and memorable training experience for the Unit.

The NF1 Experience

Nordic Foundation 1 is an opportunity to step away from the familiar and take on a new challenge in a demanding winter environment. From the first session on skis, participants develop the fundamental techniques needed to move confidently and efficiently across Nordic terrain.

Throughout the programme, personnel build their skills progressively, developing balance, coordination, endurance and confidence on snow. The experience combines structured instruction with the physical challenge of Nordic skiing, encouraging individuals to push beyond their comfort zone while working alongside others in an unfamiliar environment.

On successful completion of the course, participants will achieve their Nordic Foundation 1 (NF1) qualification, providing a recognised foundation for continued participation and progression within Nordic skiing.

Personnel leave with new skills, increased confidence, a genuine sense of achievement and a qualification that provides the first step towards further development in the sport.
